Hi, sunnies! This has been an exciting week! In this post, I want you to share my enthusiasm for our fundraising project since you are part of our goals at Sunny Braids. First of all, I want to thank those of you who have already donated to support local braiding artists and helping us reach more people looking forward to getting braids in Puerto Rico. In this post, I’ll tell you all about our newest updates related to the fundraiser campaign, as well as some of our projects for 2025.

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to make this fundraiser a success! Here is an update on what I’ve been doing.

Putting Together a Team

I, Vanessa, created Sunny Braids as a single person when I started offering tourists in Puerto Rico my braiding services. But ever since, I’ve come a long way! The main reason behind my decision to start a fundraiser is that I want more braiding artists to become part of my business. I love working with others, especially talented people looking forward to growing both personally and professionally!

Of course, this also applies to the fundraiser. Do you know how people say that there is no “I” in “team?” I realized I have big dreams and for me to achieve them I could not do this alone. So I’m also excited to introduce two incredible team members who have joined the campaign:  

✨ Marycarmen – Originally from Venezuela, she’ll be leading our content efforts as our Content Manager, ensuring our message reaches the right people in the most engaging way.  

✨ Mariana – From Argentina, she’s an incredibly talented Copywriter who will be crafting powerful blog content to share our story and connect with more supporters.

I’ve known these women for a long time and we’ve already worked together on other projects, so they are a big part of the Sunny Braids family! It’s great to welcome them onboard our fundraiser.

Content

Ever since I started Sunny Braids, content has been a key aspect of my business. While creating amazing braided hairstyles is the most important part of my work, from the beginning I knew I wanted to offer my audience useful information they can turn to when choosing their next braided style, looking for things to do in Puerto Rico while they are on vacation, or taking care of their braids so they last longer and remain spotless in their holiday pics. I love recommending products for braids that I also sell at my studio.

Later, I addressed fellow braiders who are looking forward to launching their business or want to join my dreams and become part of the Sunny Braids family, so I offered valuable advice on how to braid faster and perfect their skills, the importance of setting the right price for their braiding services, or how to get more clients and grow their business.

Of course, when it comes to the fundraiser, I can’t wait to share more about our journey and the impact we’re creating together. Thank you for being part of this mission! My favorite piece of content is videos of our donors sharing the motivation behind their donations. We have so much exciting content coming your way, so stay tuned! 

Thankful Thursdays, another exciting feature of our fundraising campaign is a weekly post where we shout out our donors and thank them for their contribution. For the shoutouts, we send a weekly email as well as posts on IG, FB, and TT stories.

Automations

Other than creating unique braided hairstyles, I have a passion for IT. In that sense, this fundraiser offers me a great opportunity to keep learning! Over the past few weeks, I’ve been setting up key systems like email and text automations, refining our content strategy, and planning impactful ways to share our mission. 

For any entrepreneur, being great at what you do is just part of launching a successful business. I discovered long ago I can’t rely on my braiding skills alone to build a reputation and keep growing my clientele. Setting up optimized Instagram and Google Business profiles is definitely a MUST! However, if you spend too much time creating content, that’s less time you’ll spend braiding clients, so that’s a problem that needs to be solved!

In that sense, automations are a great time-saver that allows you to organize better, and keep your clients—and, in this case, your donors—regularly updated without taking time out of your business.

I’ve already told you before that I used to work as a software engineer before launching my braiding business, so I’m quite comfortable exploring new tools and making the best out of them. For automations I use GoHighLevel. My boyfriend Cole introduced me to this platform and at first, I must admit I didn’t like it. It was like a cheap Hubspot but the more I used it and saw how it boosted my conversions I learned to love it! 

GoHihgLevel makes it super easy to track leads, reengage them, and convert them.

What’s Next for Sunny Braids?

Since many of you, with your donations, are already making it possible for Sunny Braids to grow, expand, and reach new talented braiders, you probably want to know about some of our thrilling projects for 2025, right? Let me tell you about two upcoming events that currently keep me busy and excited!

EDC 2025

Last year, for the first time I attended the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), an astounding music festival that takes place in many different cities—I attended the one in Las Vegas. It was a breathtaking experience, not just as an attendant but as a professional braider as well. Even though so far I’ve dedicated myself to braiding tourists and attending people who were looking to get braids in Puerto Rico, I discovered ravers as a whole new audience for braiding services. By the way, I loved working with these clients! They are so much fun!

People who attend music festivals want their braids to be a part of their outfit, and consider their hair a major part of the whole rave experience. That’s why they want vibrating, colorful braided hairstyles instead of simply braiding their hair to protect it from the elements on their beach vacation. Cue EDC festival braids!

Attending the EDC offered me the chance to come up with a whole new collection of EDC festival braids. I had a blast designing and creating new braided hairstyles that didn’t resemble my usual collection. Plus, I had a wonderful time at the fest. So of course, this year I’m going again! EDC 2025, here we go!

In case you’ve never attended the festival before, you should know that EDC is a vibrating event that takes place in Las Vegas for three days. EDC 2025 is from May 16 to 18 and if you want to go there, you’d better save your spot because there will be a LOT of people! Sunny Braids has partnered with Live How You Want—a Las Vegas-based organization that offers festival attendants packages with hotels and party bus shuttles, so you can go to Las Vegas and relax—they’ll take care of the logistics so you don’t need to worry. Long Weekends at Palomino

You already know how most of Sunny Braids' clientele are tourists who visit San Juan and look for fun things to do in Puerto Rico, right? Many of them arrive on the island during holidays such as last weekend (President’s Day) or Easter—and, of course, a lot of them want to get their braids done! Well, this year, we have our hands full! This time, we’re braiding on the private island of Palomino, an exclusive spot that many people describe as “paradise:” Its crystal clear waters, white sand, and soft breeze invite everyone to chill out and enjoy each second of their vacation time.

The island of Palomino is located in Fajardo, on the east side of Puerto Rico. There is an exclusive resort, El Conquistador, which this year is at full capacity. They have booked us to provide our braiding services on the island. That’s great news! We went last weekend for the first time and we’re going back in Easter. I’m looking forward to spending another long weekend doing what I love in such a marvelous place. And I just love that my braiding skills help so many people make the best out of their beach holidays!

¡Actualizaciones importantes sobre nuestra recaudación de fondos!

¡Hola, sunnies! ¡Esta ha sido una semana emocionante! En este post quiero que compartan mi entusiasmo por nuestro proyecto ya que ustedes son parte de nuestros objetivos en Sunny Braids. Primero que nada, quiero agradecerles a quienes ya han donado por apoyar a los artistas locales de trenzado y ayudarnos a llegar a más personas deseosas de hacerse trenzas en Puerto Rico. En esta publicación, les contaré todo sobre nuestras actualizaciones más recientes relacionadas con la campaña de recaudación de fondos, así como algunos de nuestros proyectos para 2025.

¡Hemos trabajado duro entre bastidores para que esta recaudación de fondos sea un éxito! Aquí hay una actualización de lo que he estado haciendo.

Armando un equipo
Yo, Vanessa, creé Sunny Braids por mi cuenta cuando comencé a ofrecer a los turistas en Puerto Rico mis servicios de trenzado. ¡Pero desde entonces he recorrido un largo camino! La razón principal detrás de mi decisión de iniciar una recaudación de fondos es que quiero que más artistas de trenzado formen parte de mi negocio. Me encanta trabajar con otras personas, especialmente con gente talentosa que desee crecer tanto personal como profesionalmente.

Por supuesto, esto también se aplica a la recaudación de fondos. ¿Conoces ese dicho que reza “Una mano sola jamás construirá casa”? Me di cuenta de que tengo grandes sueños y que para lograrlos no podía hacerlo sola. Por eso también me complace presentarles a dos increíbles miembros del equipo que se han unido a la campaña:  

✨ Marycarmen – Originaria de Venezuela, liderará nuestros esfuerzos de contenido como nuestra Gerente de Contenido, asegurando que nuestro mensaje llegue a las personas adecuadas de la manera más atractiva.

✨ Mariana – De Argentina, es una redactora increíblemente talentosa que creará contenido de blog poderoso para compartir nuestra historia y conectarse con más seguidores.

Conozco a estas mujeres desde hace mucho tiempo y ya hemos trabajado juntas en otros proyectos, ¡así que son una gran parte de la familia Sunny Braids! Es fantástico darles la bienvenida a nuestra recaudación de fondos.

Contenido
Desde que comencé Sunny Braids, el contenido ha sido un aspecto clave de mi negocio. Si bien crear increíbles peinados trenzados es la parte más importante de mi trabajo, desde el principio supe que quería ofrecerle a mi audiencia información útil a la que puedan recurrir al elegir su próximo estilo de trenzado, buscar cosas que hacer en Puerto Rico mientras están de vacaciones o cuidar sus trenzas para que duren más y queden impecables en sus fotos de viaje. Me encanta recomendar productos para trenzas que también vendo en mi estudio.

Posteriormente, me dirigí a compañeras trenzadoras que están deseando lanzar su negocio o quieren sumarse a mis sueños y formar parte de la familia Sunny Braids, por lo que les ofrecí valiosos consejos sobre cómo trenzar más rápido y perfeccionar sus habilidades, la importancia de fijar el precio correcto por sus servicios de trenzado o cómo conseguir más clientes y hacer crecer su negocio.

Por supuesto, en lo que respecta a la recaudación de fondos, no puedo esperar para compartir más sobre nuestro trayecto y el impacto que estamos creando juntos. ¡Gracias por ser parte de esta misión! Mi contenido favorito son los videos de nuestros donantes que comparten la motivación detrás de sus donaciones. Tenemos mucho contenido interesante en camino, ¡así que estén atentos!

Jueves de agradecimiento, otra característica interesante de nuestra campaña de recaudación de fondos es una publicación semanal en la que saludamos a nuestros donantes y les agradecemos su contribución. Para los agradecimientos, enviamos un correo electrónico semanal, así como publicaciones en historias de IG, FB y TT.

Automatizaciones

Además de crear peinados trenzados únicos, me apasiona la informática. En ese sentido, ¡esta recaudación de fondos me ofrece una gran oportunidad para seguir aprendiendo! Durante las últimas semanas, he estado configurando sistemas clave como automatizaciones de correo electrónico y mensajes de texto, perfeccionando nuestra estrategia de contenido y planificando formas impactantes de compartir nuestra misión. 

Para cualquier emprendedor, ser excelente en lo que hace es sólo una parte del lanzamiento de un negocio exitoso. Hace mucho tiempo descubrí que no puedo confiar únicamente en mis habilidades de trenzado para construir una reputación y seguir aumentando mi clientela. ¡Configurar perfiles optimizados de Instagram y Google Business es definitivamente IMPRESCINDIBLE! Sin embargo, si dedicas demasiado tiempo a crear contenido, dedicarás menos tiempo a trenzar a tus clientes, ¡así que ese es un problema que debe resolverse!

En ese sentido, las automatizaciones son un gran ahorro de tiempo que nos permite organizarnos mejor y mantener a nuestros clientes (y, en este caso, a los donantes) actualizados periódicamente sin quitarle tiempo al negocio.

Ya les dije antes que trabajaba como ingeniera de software antes de lanzar mi negocio de trenzado, por lo que me siento bastante cómoda explorando nuevas herramientas y sacándoles el máximo provecho. Para automatizaciones utilizo GoHighLevel. Mi novio Cole me presentó esta plataforma y al principio debo admitir que no me gustó. Era como un Hubspot barato, pero cuanto más lo usaba y veía cómo impulsaba mis conversiones, ¡aprendí a amarlo! 

GoHihgLevel hace que sea muy fácil realizar un seguimiento de los clientes potenciales, volver a atraerlos y convertirlos.

¿Qué sigue para Sunny Braids?
Dado que muchos de ustedes, como donantes, ya están haciendo posible que Sunny Braids crezca, se expanda y llegue a nuevos trenzadores talentosos, probablemente quieran conocer algunos de nuestros emocionantes proyectos para 2025, ¿verdad? ¡Déjenme contarles sobre dos próximos eventos que actualmente me mantienen ocupada y emocionada!

EDC 2025

El año pasado, asistí por primera vez al Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), un asombroso festival de música que se lleva a cabo en muchas ciudades diferentes; asistí al de Las Vegas. Fue una experiencia impresionante, no sólo como asistente sino también como trenzadora profesional. Si bien hasta ahora me había dedicado a trenzar a turistas y atender a personas que buscaban hacerse trenzas en Puerto Rico, descubrí a los ravers como un público completamente nuevo para los servicios de trenzado. Por cierto, ¡me encantó trabajar con estos clientes! ¡Son muy divertidos!

Las personas que asisten a festivales de música quieren que sus trenzas formen parte de su atuendo y consideran que su cabello es una parte importante de toda la experiencia rave. Es por eso que quieren peinados trenzados vibrantes y coloridos en lugar de simplemente trenzar su cabello para protegerlo de los elementos durante sus vacaciones en la playa. ¡Así surgieron las trenzas del festival EDC!

Asistir al EDC me ofreció la oportunidad de crear una colección completamente nueva de trenzas del festival EDC. Me lo pasé genial diseñando y creando nuevos peinados trenzados que no se parecían a mi colección habitual. Además, la pasé muy bien en el festival. Así que claro, ¡este año voy de nuevo! EDC 2025, ¡allá vamos!

En caso de que nunca antes hayas asistido al festival, debes saber que EDC es un evento vibrante que se lleva a cabo en Las Vegas durante tres días. El EDC 2025 es del 16 al 18 de mayo y si quieres ir será mejor que vayas reservando tu lugar porque ¡habrá MUCHA gente! Sunny Braids se ha asociado con Live How You Want, una organización con sede en Las Vegas que ofrece a los asistentes al festival paquetes con hoteles y traslados en autobús para fiestas, para que puedas ir a Las Vegas y relajarte; ellos se encargarán de la logística para que no tengas que preocuparte. Fines de semana largos en Palomino
Ya saben que la mayoría de la clientela de Sunny Braids son turistas que visitan San Juan y buscan cosas divertidas que hacer en Puerto Rico, ¿verdad? Muchas de ellas llegan a la isla durante días festivos como el pasado fin de semana que fue Día del Presidente, o Semana Santa y, por supuesto, ¡muchas quieren hacerse las trenzas! Bueno, ¡este año estamos muy ocupados! En esta oportunidad estamos yendo a trenzar en la isla privada de Palomino, un lugar exclusivo que muchos describen como “paraíso”: sus aguas cristalinas, arena blanca y una suave brisa invitan a todos a relajarse y disfrutar de cada segundo de su tiempo de vacaciones.

La isla de Palomino está ubicada en Fajardo, en el lado este de Puerto Rico. Existe un exclusivo resort, El Conquistador, que este año está a pleno rendimiento. Nos han contratado para prestar nuestros servicios de trenzado en la isla. ¡Esa es una gran noticia! Fui por primera vez este fin de semana pasado, y me toca volver durante las Pascuas. Tengo muchas ganas de pasar otro fin de semana largo haciendo lo que amo en un lugar tan maravilloso. ¡Y me encanta que mis habilidades con el trenzado ayuden a tanta gente a aprovechar al máximo sus vacaciones en la playa!
